Now that winter is here, it´s time to enjoy one of the many outdoor activities with our kids like skiing and ice-skating! But before you head out to the rink, you must prepare your kids so they´re ready to get the most out of the thrilling experience of gliding through ice. Today, The Toy Blog would like to offer some tips and show you how your kids can even continue to enjoy this fun-packed and healthy sport at home with Barriguitas.

During this time of year, most cities and towns have ice skating rink where the entire family can enjoy a great afternoon together during the holiday season. There. you´ll be able to rent skates, helmets and knew guards too! Most also offer classes for the little ones and have special areas where they can learn to skate at ease. But before they hit the ice, there are some things to keep in mind so they can make the most of their experience.

During this time of year, most cities and towns have ice rinks where the entire family can enjoy a great afternoon together during this holiday season.  There, you´ll be able to rent skates, helmets and knee guards too. Most ice rinks also offer classes for the little ones and have special areas where they can learn to skate at ease, supervised by monitors. But before they hit the ice, there are some things to keep in mind so they can make the most of their experience.

  • Make sure they wear high socks and their warm clothes are layered. Gloves are a must since they will probably fall a lot while they learn.
  • There are parents who prefer their kids wear helmets and knee guards, just like they do when they are riding their bicycles. But this is entirely up to you.
  • Once they have their skates on, encourage them to walk around, outside the rink. This way, they´ll become used to the additional weight and attempt balance.
  • Practice falling. Just like when kids learn to ski, it´s crucial they learn how to fall and pick themselves up again. The important thing to master is managing their fear and anxiety. If they learn to fall, they´ll feel more confident to try new things.
  • If your children already have roller skating experience, it´ll be easier for them to make the transitions to ice.
  • Once they are at the rink, you can help them from behind, by placing your hands under their armpits until they get a hold of their balance and speed.

What age is a good one to start ice skating?

Kids 3 years old and over can begin to practice this fun and healthy activity, that improves their strength, motor skills and balance. If your children haven’t had the chance to ice skate before or would like to keep enjoying the fun once they are at home, there are great toys that will help them develop their imagination and with which they´ll acquire better control of their bodies and coordination.

One of these toys is Barriguitas Ice Skating Rink, a fabulous play set that invites your kids to role-play and imagine different situations they´ve observed or fantasize with.

Like every Barriguitas play set, this one by Famosa, allows kids to verbally express themselves while the relive real situations. Perhaps they wish to express their fear of falling or their dream of being able to do a double twist on ice like the pros. Together with the Barriguitas dolls, they can continue to enjoy their ice-skating experience.

At the Barriguitas Ice Skating Rink, the dolls skate under magical lights! All the kids need to do is put their boots on and use the remote control to project the beautiful lights and create magical effects as well as have the dolls dance together along with the funny penguin. Each doll has its own matching boots and the play set includes two Barriguitas dolls and a penguin. Check out this fun video to discover everything your kids can do with this fun play set.

Did you know that Barriguitas toys also help kids develop their social skills? Yes, these are toys with which children can entertain themselves on their own but by playing with others, they´ll have a blast inventing stories together.

Remember, ice-skating is a great family activity! This Christmas holiday we encourage you to spend an unforgettable day at the ice rink with your kids! Happy holidays!
