Surely you´ve heard the word podcast before. It´s like a radio cannel on the Internet, which creates visual and audio content.  You might even have a favourite one you listen to and follow. But did you know that there are hundreds of podcast specially created for kids? Today, at The Toy Blog, we´d like to share our list of favourite podcasts for them and the entire family. All you have to do now is take your Smartphone or computer and create your very own playlist, an excellent idea for road trips or even the ride to school each morning.

Holy Communion season is approaching and one of the most demanded gifts is, without a doubt, a technologic device: laptop, smartphone, game console or tablet. However, as parents, we might ask ourselves if it´s a good idea. There are different opinions on the matter. We still don´t know what effects its and experts argue about the benefits and dangers. What we do know is that technology is here to stay and it seems counter productive for children to live in a bubble. The key is moderation and the decision is up to you.

Year after year, we are cautioned by the presence of violence in videogames. It´s obvious that some are not appropriate for young children but many parents however, influenced by the negativity of this type of message, discard them completely. The truth is that certain videogames provide an enriching experience and even an educational one. Especially if we keep in mind that, in a society like ours, we should not discourage them from learning through technology. So, what benefits do videogames provide for children? And how can parents enhance the positive aspects of playing with them?

How many hours should a child watch TV? In a study, published by medical journal Archives of Disease in Childhood, British paediatricians, led by psychologist Aric Sigman, suggests children under 3 not watch television or use other electronic devices such as cell phones, computers or tablets. And for kids 3 and older, they recommend they spend no more than 2 hours a day in front of a screen. Other experts however, believe we should not prohibit but limit the use of screens. Instead of isolating children in this technological and digital age, the key is to help them consume in moderation. Overexposure to screens can cause serious problems related to physical and cognitive development such as obesity, attention deficit disorders or lack of empathy.  Instead of opposing machines, we must search for educational alternatives that may substitute them. Especially during the winter months, when children spend more time at home. The Toy Blog would like to offer 8 ideas to help you help them not be tempted to watch too much TV.
