Here, at The Toy Blog, we´ve written numerous posts on the importance of eating well. They say we are what we eat and eating well gives us the drive to stay healthy, acquire good habits and enjoy life much better. In terms of diets, nutritionists, doctors and paediatricians do not recommend healthy children go on diets because they need the necessary calories and nutrients in order to study, learn and play. After the holidays, however, there are certain diets –healthy and nutritious –that the entire family can enjoy. Here are three suggestions. But before, we´d like to clue you in on how your children can learn to eat healthy and actually like it.

How to Teach Your Kids Table Manners

Teaching children table manners goes far beyond eating well and feeling proud of them at the next family wedding or at your in-laws Christmas dinner this year. Jodie Shield, nutritionist, writer and president of Healthy Eating for Families, believes ” table manners set a bond between the parents and child that goes way beyond nutrition. It´s a way of teaching children family values and traditions.” Good table manners are something they will use their entire life and the sooner they learn, the better. So, start by learning what you can teach them and at what age.

Childhood obesity affects a child´s health and wellbeing and is one of the most serious public health issues in the 21st century. Overweight children not  only suffer from discrimination and teasing but suffer from life-threatening conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, sleep problems, eating disorders, skin infections and asthma among many others.
